IRCTC is coming up with the concept of pod hotels to facilitate travel for its passengers. It is considering setting up of modern, affordable, air-conditioned lodging options, thereby planning to come up with a pod hotel near the Mumbai Central Railway Station. It is expected that when this plan sees the light of day, it will offer passengers options of comfortable stopovers, which will be enhanced with high-end amenities than the retiring rooms. Read less
Pod hotels are technically a kind of accommodation options that offers small rooms, also called capsules that come equipped with all necessary amenities. Referring to this development, IRCTC spokesperson Pinakin Morawala said that Indian Railways is planning to set up 30 pod hotels that will be equipped with changing areas, washroom, a lounge area and cafeteria. Also, as per the latest news reports, each pod will be 5 ft by 7 ft. In addition to these, the pod capsules will also have a personal locker, sliding doors, USB ports, television sets, light controls smoke detectors, power sockets, and Wi-Fi connections.
