New Orleans’s long and turbulent history seems ideally suited for haunted house and ghost stories. Add to this a generous dose of voodoo culture, and the tours take on an irresistible quality. From haunted houses to places like the Pirates’ Alley where sounds of torture are said to be heard even today, from crime story locations to voodoo locations, everything is par for the course. This can only be made even more quirky or scary by adding on haunted cemetery tours where participants are not only shown the beautiful and artistic tombstones but also the resting places of some of the notorious characters, including the voodoo queen Marie Laveau, that lived through New Orleans’ history.
