Located on the rather loud and colourful Bourbon Street, Fritzel’s has nearly a 50-year old history. Housed inside an early 19th century building, the decor is minimal and there’s a no-frills atmosphere to the place. Fritzel’s is known more than anything else for its music, pumped out by its own in-house band comprising a set of musicians who may vary each night. This is one of the few places that play authentic New Orleans Dixieland Jazz, and jazz aficionados spend hours here listening to some soul-stirring stuff. Such is the emphasis on music at Fritzel’s that the website does not even make a mention of food and drink, though it does serve up the basic beer and pub grub. But clearly, music, especially jazz, is front and centre here.
