Find some green in the desert

Talk of the town: The Montgomerie Dubai Golf Club has a green in the shape of the UAE. It’s the world’s largest golfing green, and spans 5,388 sq m.

A desert metropolis may seem an odd spot for a golfer’s paradise, but then again, anything’s possible when you combine the world’s best course designers with billions in spending power. In the last two decades, many of golf’s biggest stars, including Tiger Woods and Seve Ballesteros, have come to play in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic tournament, which since its inception in 1989 has become one of the top spots on the European tour.
Emirates Golf Club hosts the tournament most years, and is not only the Gulf’s oldest range, but one of the most impressive all round. Other local favourites include the Dubai Creek Yacht & Golf Club, the Al Badia Golf Club, the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa and the Montgomerie Dubai Golf Club.
