The Exploratorium is a hands-on interactive science centre for adults and children alike. It has more than 600 exhibits that encourage visitors to get involved and learn. Exhibits include items such as stepping into a tornado and learning what happens inside, creating your own electrical circuit or counting the rings of an ancient 300 year old tree.Highlights include the South Gallery: Tinkering. Visitors can get up close and personal with constructing, engineering and problem-solving while connecting, linking, stretching and rolling materials to create individual contraptions. The idea of the play space is to get hands on with learning and allow visitors to “tinker” with various elements to reach a result. The workshop provides an innovative workspace where you can work alone or as a team. This is a popular spot for kids (big and small!) and school groups. Other galleries provide investigative workshops, science based activities and also historical and geographic investigations of the bay area. If you’re not a big fan of children, they also hold special adult evening where you can participate in all the activities and workshops in peace and quiet.
The Exploratorium is located on the stunning Pier 15 in the Embarcadero district. There are two eateries located in the Exploratorium—SeaGlass Restaurant and the Seismic Joint Cafe. SeaGlass is a dine-in restaurant with locally sourced produce and a great view of the water. The Seismic Joint Cafe is a take away cafe offering fresh and healthy options for you and your family.
