If there’s one thing that defines the city of Marrakech, it is the souks at Jemaa El Fna. It’s hard to miss them because they are the focal point of the entire city. In Marrakech, life revolves around the souks. These labyrinthine markets are unlike anything you would’ve ever seen before. There are hundreds of shops selling jewellery, handicrafts, clothes, and shawls made by local artisans. You can nab a good deal if you are prepared to bargain. But that’s not all. There are also magicians willing to showcase their skills, dyers dying carpets, snake charmers bent on beguiling tourists into watching their acts, and confectioners selling local sweetmeats. If you’re a photographer, there is definitely no dearth of interesting subjects in the souks. Beware of your surroundings at all times when you’re exploring the local markets of Marrakech as there are also a lot of pickpockets in the area.
