Five km away from Sheikh Bazaar Puja Pandal, is the Chandni Chowk Puja Pandal located close to the Orissa High Court. The giant silver filigree backdrop here is one of the most intricately carved ones in the entire of Cuttack. Prepared with at least 5 quintals of silver, the 30-ft-high backdrop is designed with motifs of 70 elephants, 30 peacocks and as many swans besides flowers and leaves. In the centre of the backdrop, two beautifully carved peacocks flank the Goddess on either side and on the crest there is a filigree idol of Lord Shiva performing ‘Tandav Nritya’ (dance of destruction). For any connoisseur of silver filigree, the backdrop is a sight to behold. The organisers say that 20 senior silver filigree craftsmen of Cuttack had prepared the majestic backdrop over a period of one year. Only traditional filigree style has been used to carve the backdrop. Like Balu Bazaar Puja Pandal, the face of the Goddess in Chandni Chowk Puja Pandal has seen no change in the past one decade.
