Channapatna toys

You must have seen these colourful wooden toys all over Mysore. As evident from the name, these toys are made in the Channapatna region of Karnataka. Channapatna, which lies en route to Mysore from Bengaluru, has been named Gombegala Ooru (toy-town) of Karnataka because of the popularity of these toys. Since these are used by children, they primarily make use vegetable dyes for colouring the toys. Along with a variety of toys, you also get colourful dolls that make a great souvenir or a gift for a child. I personally bought a small monkey and even a bangle made of the same design and wood.
