Started in 1982, Bharat Bhawan is a centre for the performing and visual arts. It was designed by renowned architect Charles Correa, in harmony with the surrounding landscape. It houses a museum of the arts, an art gallery, a workshop for fine arts, a repertory theatre, indoor and outdoor auditoria, a rehearsal room and libraries of Indian poetry, classical and folk music. The museum has an excellent permanent collection of modern Indian painting and sculpture as well as a gallery dedicated to tribal art. It also organises cultural events, including music, dance and theatre performances, literary readings and film shows, on a regular basis.
