There are few places in Mumbai that reveal the city’s glorious coastline the way Marine Drive does. Just 500 meters from Churchgate Station and you’re on the Southern seafront of Mumbai which has a coastline that arches into a semicircle of street lights, creating a sight that is locally called the ‘Queen’s necklace’. This is a place frequented by all sorts, joggers, couples who only need a feet of a seat by the edge, office-goers who want to let off some steam by the seaside etc. As you sit by the concrete promenade that overlooks the rocks by the shore, you won’t be left alone for long. Apart from a constant gush of waves crashing against the shore, you will be greeted by hawkers peddling quick bites, tea and coffee, peanuts and even coconut water, will stroll by ensuring you’re well fed while you sit here watching the world go by or get engrossed in a bestseller.
The place is not only popular because of its beauty but is also known for its celebrity sighting status! A number of eminent personalities from Bollywood and other industries have their bungalows here Pooja Bhatt being one of them. The south Mumbai is obviously noted for this thing majorly and people from all over come here to get a glimpse of their favourite actors. Second best thing about this place is Chowpaty Beach, which remains flooded with people all the time always. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in the city with much fervour and enthusiasm and during this time a lot idols are submerged in the sea water after the festivities are over. Marine Drive also witnesses a huge rush of people and devotees during this time and the environment remains quite colourful and playful during that time.
