Trinity Church

The Town Kirk is one of Scotland’s great burgh churches. Founded in 1410-11 on the site of an earlier church, it has been frequently altered and reconstructed. The Dutch work on the south transept contains a monument to Archbishop Sharp. You can see a 17th-century communion plate. Behind the old school was converted in 1845 in the City Hall. It is now the Public Library. The present Town hall was built in 1858-60. It is a restrained version of baronialism, the guides will tell you. The corner turret contains the old town bell, which was re-cast in 1697.
