Less of a park and more of a square green lawn area, this park is located right smack in the centre of the Central Business District and surrounded by tall commercial buildings on all sides. It is located right above the Raffles Place MRT Station and during weekdays sees a large amount of pedestrian traffic from office workers in the surrounding buildings. The ‘garden’ area or lawn is actually raised up compared to the sidewalk, so the perimeter has become a popular place for office workers to sit around during lunchtime as a quick escape from the cubicles. A large video screen located at Chevron House overlooks the lawn and because of its highly central location, there’s always some sort of event or campaign targeted at the working crowd happening in the area on weekdays. By stark contrast, stroll by during the weekend and this place is like a ghost town, absolutely deserted with barely any retail outlets open at all. Don’t expect to see any real flora and fauna here, but there are several public artworks and sculptures in the surrounding areas commissioned by private businesses and building owners.
