Casa de los Picos

SIGHTSEEING, SEGOVIA Updated : Mar 18, 2016, 10.23 AM IST

Casa del los Picos

On the Royal Street, which boasts some of the magnificent structures, the first one, Casa de los Picos, usually surprises visitors. The entire façade, a bit Renaissance in style, is studded with sharp, pyramid kind of blocks and it is both forbidding but also curious. Built in the 15th century, probably to evoke a sense of hostility and protection, the pointy stones (picos) are all sculpted granite blocks. It currently houses a school of applied arts and regularly holds free contemporary art exhibitions. Entrance is usually free.
