Ipanema shares a border with Copacabana, but this world-class beach destination is more exclusive than its south Rio counterpart. Ipanema has a magnificent beach and leafy streets dotted with enticing outdoor cafes and lively bars—it was here that the famous song Garota de Ipanema (Girl from Ipanema) was penned. With mountains, turquoise waters, golden sand and tropical flora making for most of this beach’s landscape, Ipenema is Rio’s most visited beach. The beach promenade is home to many of the city’s upscale shops and cafes and the nearby Rua Vincius de Morais, Baixo Farme and Baixo Quiteria streets are lined with expensive bars, clubs and restaurants.
