Dramatic rocky formations, outcrops and stark hills distinguish Ramanagara from the rest of the landscape. This beautiful place is located about 100 km to the northeast of Mysore on the Bangalore-Mysore road. Like Channapatna, this is another silk-intensive town, but there’s another attraction just on the outskirts of town. It essentially is a collection of rocky outcrops. It was the place where the film Sholay was filmed and has become popular ever since, especially with those who enjoy adventure sports. There are many places for rock climbing, rappelling and bouldering here besides a temple dedicated to Rama which can be reached through a flight of about 350 steps. But for those not looking for any adventure, the stretch with clusters of gigantic rocks is quite pristine and ideal for a picnic.
