Another important pilgrimage site of Sikhs, which is 25 km from Amritsar, Gurudwara Goindwal Sahib holds immense significance in Sikhism. It is said that this is where the third Sikh Guru, Guru Amardas lived and preached for 33 years. It is also a place where Langar (Free Community Kitchen) was introduced, which over the decades, has become an important part of the religion. An 84 step well called Baoli was constructed here and it is believed that those who will take a bath in the water of this well, reciting the hymn “Japji”, will attain salvation. One can easily make out the reflection of Sikhism adopted in the architecture of the Gurudwara. The elaborative carvings on the wall and surroundings reflect the ancient Sikh history of the era. Truly one can vouch for a divine and celestial experience.
