Phuket’s Big Buddha is the island’s most important and revered landmark. Sitting atop a hill, it’s visible from across the town. Bells line the pathway up to the Buddha, and their music is half the reason why tourists go there. Built on a patch of virgin rainforest high above Phuket City, the 45-metre-high giant statue was built almost entirely though donations. The white marble, which covers the sculpture and gives it a tranquil glow, was also donated. Climb up to the Buddha’s feet to enjoy magnificent views of south Phuket.
