Although Rambutan Resort is the new kid on the block, this guest house has done an amazing job at focussing on the essentials of a quality tropical retreat. Surrounded by lush trees, bushes and tropical shrubs, it is located in a quiet pocket of downtown Phnom Penh, just 5 minutes’ ride to most of the tourist attractions. The guest house is a converted 60s style villa overlooking a pool, providing a calm relaxing entryway into this hidden oasis. The lobby is dotted with funky contemporary artwork giving this resort a modern edge, and the friendly staff will instantly make you feel welcomed.
Since it’s a relatively small guest house, there are only about 10 rooms which add to the relaxed vibe of the guest house. Guests can choose between standard, deluxe garden and deluxe pool rooms. There is also a penthouse suite for those who wish to splurge. Much like the lobby, the rooms are modern and fresh. The floors and bathroom facilities are all polished concrete while the furnishings and linens are traditional silk and Khmer cotton. All rooms include breakfast and the restaurant is operational throughout the day to whip up delicious snacks and meals. The menu has a range of western and Asian delicacies and daily specials.
The Rambutan also has a sister concern in Siem Reap which is just as great. Small, quiet and calm, it’s the perfect place to stay if you’re also visiting the temples in Siem Reap.
