There aren’t many bars in America, let alone San Francisco, which have been open as long as Shotwell’s. The mission-district bar first started serving beers to thirsty customers way back in 1891 as a Grocery Saloon. Following the Great Quake of 1906, the owner got rid of the grocery half of the business and the saloon took over the entire space. 125 years later the bar is still in operation, and is today known for its craft beer, laid back vibe, and having something every good neighbourhood bar needs – a seriously good jukebox.History buffs will get a real kick out of the bar. The original back bar was transported from Maine to San Francisco on a train, and two of the bar panels are scarred with bullet holes.
