Mother in law can sound like a rather strange name for any establishment, especially for a jazz bar located near the historic Treme neighbourhood of New Orleans. And yet it seems perfectly alright when you consider that the lounge was started by jazz and R&B artiste Ernie K Doe who named it after his hit song by the same name. A bright vibrant mural on the outside, along with a funky atmosphere inside, makes the lounge a popular place. After his death, the lounge has become a shrine to the musician. In later years, the lounge was acquired by famous jazz musician Kermit Ruffins, and continues to own it. He plays here regularly, and jazz connoisseurs come all the way to listen to the legend.
