The Mississippi waterfront in New Orleans is dotted with many fascinating things, one of which is the fabulous Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. Almost adjacent to the French Quarter, a surreal experience awaits visitors here. There’s an entire Caribbean reef that has been designed with a walk-through tunnel, and fish of varying sizes, some really large, swim around and over your head. There’s also a Gulf of Mexico exhibit which is filled with 400,000 gallons of water, and is populated sting rays, sharks, and other fish. In another part, there are penguins and otters, utterly adorable and enchanting. Other creatures to watch for are turtles which form part of the aquarium’s rescue and rehabilitation programme.
