A sylvan asylum of its own kind, Tendong Hill stands out from other neighbouring places for its serene environment. The word ‘Tendong’ translates into ‘the upraised horn’ in Lepcha language. The local lore says that the Tendong hills played the protector for all the inhabitants of Namchi from floods. Even today, it is worshipped by the locals to keep calamity and flood at bay. For long, Tendong has served as a residence of the Buddhist Lamas, who would find the tranquil atmosphere conducive for meditations. You can also take a walk to Tendong Biodiversity Park to see the several medical plants conserved so well by the Sikkim’s Forest Department. If you are up for frolic with friends or family, a picnic at Rukumtar located at the base of Tendong Hill amidst the chirpy birds is recommended.
