Located 7km from Namchi town and atop Samdruptse hill, the namesake monastic settlement used to be a very popular tourist spot before the Siddheshwar Dham came into existence. It is, however, still thronged by many visitors from all walks of life. The foundation stone of this monastery by laid by His Holiness Dalai Lama in the late 90s and for 3 plus years several renowned architects, engineers and over 1,000 labourers toiled hard to erect this engineering and architectural marvel.

From the portals of the monastery, it is a long uphill walk before you reach the establishment. A giant 45 m statue of Sikkim's patron saint Guru Padmasambhava stands on an elevated platform. The admirable visage of the sculpture is painted with gold that shines in the sunlight. Resplendent views of the nearby virgin forests and hills can be seen by the visitors. The entry to the monastery is paid.
