Le Sud-Ouest (the South-West) consists of a grouping of neighborhoods that sprung up around Lachine Canal during the Industrial Revolution. Traditionally working-class, this historic district has undergone massive urban renewal in recent years, with wealthier professionals and new businesses moving to this area, which still retains a charming old-school character.
Sights include the restored Lachine Canal, bustling Atwater Market, and the famous row of antique shops on rue Notre-Dame Ouest dubbed the "Quartier des Antiquaires." Also on Notre-Dame Ouest are popular dining establishments ranging from casual favourite Burgundy Lion to culinary hotspot Joe Beef. Finally, don't miss the lovely Corona Theatre, a cinema built in 1912 for silent films that has been restored and reopened as a cultural arts venue.
