Lanark

SIGHTSEEING, LANARK Updated : Feb 27, 2017, 02.22 PM IST

LanarkThis historic town has plenty to boast about; it was home to the first Scottish Parliament, its church has the world’s oldest church bells and the village of New Lanark is one of Scotland’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making it a popular weekend getaway for history buffs. There is an 18th century cotton mill in the village, which has been converted into a hotel. The village is only home to around 200 people, who live in restored houses. This destination is actually a photographer’s dream. The town of Lanark has plenty of things to see and do other than the village though. You can plan on visiting the museum that has a great collection of historical items, which echo the true history of the town. Nature lovers can visit the Falls of Clyde and the Corehouse Nature Reserve. Plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes line the street and there is a vibrancy in the air throughout the town all year around.
