Start early in the morning from Hunder for Leh, which is at a drive of around eight hours. You can visit the Panamik hot water springs on your way to Leh. There are some small gompas, which you can visit on your way back. Once you reach Khardung La, you can gorge over hot soup and bread at one of the shacks there. There is some stunning scenery enroute, as you cross tiny villages, glacial rivers, monasteries and terraced fields that will surprise you with their sudden bursts of green. If visited in right season, you can see fields of mustard, barley, peas, walnuts, apricots and almonds - all making up for a mix of vivid hues.
