The best part of this picturesque destination is that despite being so gorgeous, it is still off tourists’ radar for some odd reason. The place is considered perfect for offbeat travellers in search of serenity and silence.
Barog is only 300 km from the national capital Delhi, which makes it an ideal offbeat summer weekend getaway. A place less explored and less touristy like Barog has its own charm. The cleanliness and the quietness that surrounds the place is unmissable.
Barog from the history books
The ghost connection
The tunnel rather has a ghostly connection. Col Barog, the engineer in charge of construction, committed a huge mistake and dug the tunnel from both ends. His failure in doing correct calculation left him humiliated and lead him to commit suicide. A new tunnel was constructed and named Barog Tunnel and the settlement too was named after the dead colonel. Now the tunnel is all empty and abandoned. Rumour has it that the ghost of Colonel Barog haunts the place and a lot of people admit seeing his spirit around there.
Calling Barog a little slice of heaven won’t be incorrect. The year-round pleasant weather is just ideal for some romantic hearts. The picturesque mountains, tints of sunshine, rounded ridges, pretty hills covered with dark cedars and clusters of oaks, pines, and rhododendrons everywhere will fill your heart with positive vibes and the good, old Himalayan vibe.
