It might not be as grand as the Taj Palace Hotel looming over it, but this little boutique hotel has plenty going for it. Named for a colonial-era bachelor with something of a colourful personality, each of The Gordon House Hotel's 28 rooms are tastefully designed around three themes: Mediterranean, Scandinavian and 'country cottage.' There's no pool, gym or outdoor terrace (which limits mingling opportunities) but in-house restaurant Stir Fry, where the 'unlimited' breakfast is served, is quite good. Read less

Noteworthy for: Just metres from The Gateway of India and moments from Marine Drive, the hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring south Mumbai.
Nightclub Polly Esther's is located on the ground floor, but guests rarely report noise problems - ask for a room on one of the upper floors to stay on the safe side. Free Wi-Fi in-room is a nice bonus, and there's a small business centre on-site.
