Located behind a 150-year-old church facade at the top of Leith Walk, The Glasshouse is one of Edinburgh's more unusual boutique hotels. Chocolate-coated strawberries await you as you enter Lady Glenorchy Church. The Glasshouse has a dining room (where breakfast is served) but no restaurant or bar, although you can order 24-hour room service. The 66-room hotel has a two-acre rooftop garden which stages summertime barbecues—try the lamb and mint burgers. For tea, you will be served treats such as brandy snaps, macaroons, and smoked salmon with cream chive cheese in filo parcels. Read less

At the hotel is situated at the foot of Carlton Hill, and the décor is ’70s retro with lots of mustard tan, cherry and orange, jazzy lamp shades, boxy leather sofas and wood veneer furniture. The suites also come with a complimentary decanter of whisky, in case you fancy a nightcap.
