Andaz is a literal stone's throw from Xintiandi – an enclave of restored stone houses turned upscale boutiques and F&B outlets. The 28-floor, 207-room hotel has customisable LED lighting in each room, translucent bathroom sinks, and locally sourced artwork throughout the public spaces.
The hotel's location is prime – five minutes by foot from high street Huaihai Lu, down the block from idyllic Taipingqiao Lake, and a short jaunt to parks, the Bund, Yu Garden, and People's Square.
Hyatt has done admirably in turning their luxe but sometimes stodgy brand into a fun, flashy place to stay.
