Be one of the gentry at this 18th century gemTalk of the town: Playwright Beaumarchais lived up the street where he wrote 'The Marriage of Figaro' famously adapted by Mozart in 1786.
Word to the wise: Street-side rooms are slightly larger than those overlooking the courtyard, but naturally noisier too.
Located in the heart of bustling and historic Marais, the beautiful blue frontage looks like the glittering windows of a 19th century home. Paying homage to 'The Marriage of Figaro', they take the theme to a playfully kitsch degree of immersion. You half expect the staff to don corsets and bustles and burst forth into operettas.
With meticulous attention to detail, the family-run hotel has been decorated with floral wallpaper, antique furnishings and touching details like quill pens and original documents.
There are 19 rooms, all with original exposed beams as well as crystal drop chandeliers and daily fresh flowers, as if you still lived in the time when your needs were attended to by maids. The wi-fi and flatscreen TVs seem somewhat out of place. It is however, a three star hotel, and doesn’t have the finish of its grander counterparts, but makes a charming budget alternative.
