A hike to nature’s lap – located just 20 km from Geneva, Mont Salève is also known as Geneva’s local mountain. A day trip to the mountain is a great way to escape from the hustle bustle of Geneva. The mountain can be accessed by car, railway, cable-car or by foot. There are several well marked hiking trails which lead to the top of Mont Salève. It takes just around two hours to climb to the top. If you are not up for an exertion, the cable car can thrust you up to the top. No matter which route you take to climb, the efforts are rewarded with stunning panorama of Geneva. From the height of over 1000 meters you can admire impressive Jet d'Eau in the middle of Lake Geneva. On a clear day you can see as far as the Jura Mountains, and the Mont Blanc. The small town of Veyrier on the way back from Mont Salève is a great place for a stopover. Explore the historical centre of Veyrier, and soak in the medieval Swiss spirit over a cup of coffee in the centre.
