Located on St Ann’s street in New Orleans’ historic Treme neighbourhood, Willie Mae’s Scotch House began as a combination of bar, barber shop and salon nearly 60 years ago. However, the salon part was unsuccessful but the bar patrons vociferously urged for an eatery and Willie Mae’s was born. Drawing on the local community’s culture and history, the restaurant showcased hearty local Louisiana cuisine. A no-frills place with simple décor and an airy atmosphere, the restaurant instantly became a hit with its fried chicken, a classic Wille Mae dish that is sinful and delicious at the same time and uses a generous blend of spices and succulent chicken. This restaurant has won many awards including the James Beard award.
