Flury's, Kolkata
This iconic place was established in 1927 by Mr. and Mrs. J. Flury, and has been Kolkata's most trusted name for a delightful slice of cake. Essentially a tear-room, Flury's is today spread all over the city. However, its original location is in Park Street, and the vibe of the place is unmatched to any other. An experience you will not forget.
Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, Bengaluru
If you are in the city of Bengaluru, it is customary to stop at MTR. Established in 1924, this iconic cafe is spread all over now, as far as Singapore, and Dubai! But we insist that you visit its origin. Feeding generations of men and women comfort food, MTR has today become a household name. The masala dosa is a must try, and so is the rava idli. The rava idli was introduced as during World War II, rice was in short supply.
Indian Coffee House, Kolkata
Time stands still here at Indian Coffee House in College Street. The old-school cafe is home to numerous tales, starting from the pre-Independence era, to the Naxalite era, and more. It was founded in 1876, making it a truly iconic establishment in the city. The cafe has played host to the likes of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, to American poet Allen Ginsberg. This is where the essential Kolkata adda takes place, the conversations really do not ever stop.
Ratna Cafe, Chennai
If you are ever in the city, you have to stop by this old establishment for its idli-sambar. After all, it is said that this is the place that popularised the dish all over India. Ratna Cafe was established in the year 1948, and has played a central role in feeding the city's public its delicious foods. The original one is located at Triplicane High Rd.
