If you are looking for best tempura (a Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables that are rolled in rice flour batter and deep fried) in Kyoto, Yoshikawa is where you should be. Located around a pristine Japanese garden, the wooden exteriors of the restaurant are emblematic of the many traditional structures in the country. Given the fact that it is a part of Ryokan inn, private tatami rooms overlook the aforementioned garden. Therefore, dinner at Yoshikawa is an elaborate cultural journey, if you can afford the same is a matter of course. If not, its tempura counter is open even for diners who are not staying at Ryokan. The tempura served here is light and surprisingly not greasy at all and your food is very evidently prepared with a whole lot of love. In fact, you can watch the chefs in action if you so desire.
