Inside Café Le Procope, Paris’ oldest cafe

Cafe Le Procope in Paris has seen it all, quite literally, for it is hailed as the oldest continuously-running cafe in Paris. Plus, the tag of being the oldest cafe in the world, a claim which has been under the scanner though. It introduced the world to some of the finest coffeehouse concepts with its inception in 1686, becoming the oldest coffee shop in continuous operation in the city.
Not your regular coffee shop, Cafe Le Procope saw the likes of Voltaire, Rousseau, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin as its regulars. Today, it sits quite regally in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, wooing coffee lovers from across the world. You will know that the place is more than just for a cup of coffee as you step inside.
Its carpeted white-marble staircase, white linen tablecloths, chairs in upholstered brown leather, the outdoor seating that comes with the classic Paris promise of cobbled streets—Cafe Le Procope is as vintage as a coffeehouse can get. When in the City of Love, this cafe is where you need to walk in with a book or for a journal entry to invoke (almost) the magic of the city.

On the menu here is Dauphiné ravioli, Avocado and prawn tartare, Scottish smoked salmon, Duck foie gras, Baked cod, Pike quenelles, Beef hangar steak and more. You must all check out their “Historic Receipes” that feature dishes such as 100-day old chicken casserole, Braised beef cheek, Calf's head casserole 1686 style etc. Dessert lovers can also rest assured for there is a lot to choose from here.
