House of Shuhe 束河人家
Intimate hotpot restaurant famed for its attentive service
Word to the wise: This place became popular almost as soon as it opened, so be sure to make a reservation beforehand.

Popular plate: The fresh scallops and home-made shrimp balls are to die for. Otherwise, try their signature dish, 'Baojiang Tofu' (meaty pieces of fluffy tofu with a crispy outer shell).
Hidden in a narrow alley with no sign, just off Nanluoguxiang, this artfully decorated courtyard restaurant - complete with hanging trinkets, calligraphy on the walls, comfy seating with embroidered cushions, and pet parrot - is reminiscent of a family home in the Yunnan province.

Prices are a little steep for hotpot but considering the chef and attentive staff craft a bespoke menu according to guest likes and dislikes, and serve you until you are full, it is well worth the extra cash.

Enjoy the leafy courtyard in summer, or if you're in a group, see if you can snag one of the charming little dining rooms.
