A fourth generation Creole restaurant, Galatoire’s on Bourbon Street in the heart of French Quarter, was established over 110 years ago by an emigrant from Pau in South France. Galatoire’s has a rich and long history as a classy French Creole restaurant. For decades the restaurant had only one main dining room done in classy mid-19th century decor with high ceilings, antique ceiling fans, beautiful chandeliers and elegant furniture. Though the dress is casual during the day, jackets are preferred after evening. It is also one of the few restaurants which did not take reservations for a long time and followed the policy of first-come basis. And therefore you will hear stories about how celebrities had to queue up round the block for a seat. The restaurant also finds a mention in Tennessee Williams’ seminal work ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. Popular dishes here include shrimp remoulade, crabmeat maison, oysters en brochette, chicken Creole, filet mignon and such others.
