The big daddy of seafood restaurants in the bay, Mahesh Lunch Home has been luring in diners for the past 37 years and shows no signs of slowing down. Although they now have three additional outlets in Mumbai, and one each in Pune and Bangalore, the original—located at the junction of Cowasji Patel Street and Pherozeshah Mehta Road—remains the most popular. Having undergone renovations a few years ago, the eatery maintains its modesty in terms of everything except its food. Drawing in hordes of hungry locals and tourists, ranging from the neighbouring workers to the city’s elite—this is one place that refuses to slow down and rest on its laurels. The food remains loyal to its Mangalorean heritage, is prepared using traditional ingredients and methods, and hits the spot each time around.
