But there are still some options on the island if you just want to grab a quick and affordable bite to eat.All over the city there are many small places where you can get a freshly cooked, warm and tasty pizza slice to take away for just a few Euros, and of course, when in Italy, you cannot leave without trying an authentic Italian gelato. Wandering through the atmospheric streets of Venice while enjoying an ice cream must be one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Most of the major international fast food chains also have branches in Venice; you will find McDonalds located in Cannaregio 3885. But those who are looking for a more culturally authentic snack should head to one of the traditional local Venetian bars called baracos. This is where you can eat cicchetti – the Venetian equivalent of the Spanish tapas, which typically contains things like crostini will all sorts of toppings, boiled baby octopus, fried sardines with onions, and hard boiled eggs with anchovies. The plates are small and normally eaten standing up outside accompanied by a small glass of local wine, prosecco or the classic Venetian aperitif – the Spritz. You can even go bar hopping and try them out.
