It was a marketplace during ancient times. In 1882 a new building with an oriental dome top was created to aggregate fruits and vegetable vendors. The creative genius of Time Out transformed part of it, bringing the best of city under one roof. The market is home to 24 restaurants, 8 bars, over a dozen shops and live music venue, along with the original meat, fruits and vegetable vendors. You can find some of the best steak, wines, gelato, sushi, hamburgers, chocolates and fries in the market. The visit to the Mercado da Ribeira will get your gastric juices rolling. Walk around the buzzing lanes and identify a spot to tranquil your gourmet lust. Do not miss the heavenly steak of Caf de São Bento's or Leitão confitado a baixa temperatura at Henrique Sá Pessoa.
