If you like to avoid popular and, consequently, crowded beaches like the plague, then Sveti Jakov Beach is for you. It is a bit off the beaten path as it’s harder to reach than most other beaches. It takes a bit of a walk from Dubrovnik’s Old Town to reach Sveti Jakov beach. Alternatively, you can just drive there. It might be a tad hard to get there but once you’re there, the effort will seem completely worth it. The beach offers stunning views of the city of Dubrovnik and Lokrum Island. The charming pebble beach also offers several opportunities for water sports and sunbathing. However it is an extremely popular picnic spot for locals—so be prepared to run into large Croatian families enjoying themselves in the sun. If you’re lucky, you might just be invited to join one of them. Isn’t that incentive enough to pick up a bit of the local language?
