Khajjiar Lake in Himachal Pradesh is on the brink of extinction due to the sheer neglect of the authorities. According to the news reports, the local people living near the lake recently filed a complaint at the Chief Minister’s office. However, no action on the complaint has been taken so far as the civic authorities are unable to find a solution to conserve this lake.
Khajjiar lake is located near Dalhousie in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
Reportedly, the pollution control board has made a report and sent it to the higher authorities highlighting the sad plight of the lake. Rahul Sharma, the executive engineer of the board for Chamba region told TOI that a communication has been done with the wildlife department about the lake’s issue.
On the other hand, Vivek Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner of Chamba told TOI that the lake falls under wildlife area and it requires approvals under the wild life protection act as well as enormous funds for its restoration work. Bhatia also said that things are under progress in this regard.
However, the local activists conduct cleanliness drive in the area because the lake used to be an object of adoration and worship for their ancestors. In addition, religious ceremonies are also performed at the lake site.
