A visit to the San Kamphaeng Hot Springs is not only a fun outing but offers a true glimpse into Thai life as the park is filled with Thai families enjoying their weekend. Less than 40 kilometers outside of Chiang Mai in the district of San Kamphaeng, the natural hot springs bubble from a geyser that’s then channeled in a winding stream through a park. Here people will sit on the edge of the water putting their feet in while boiling eggs at the hottest point to eat with soy sauce. To add to the relaxing atmosphere, Thai and foot massages are available along with private hot tubs that you can rent out by the hour to fully soak in the sulphuric waters. The park area has plenty of trees plus open lands and there are several food stalls selling goodies just outside of the park (you can buy the eggs at the hot springs). The area is quite big, but it does get crowded on the weekends, especially Sundays, with big groups. To get there, rent a motorbike or car for the day to drive yourself, or hire a driver who can drive you out the springs then wait to take you back into town.
