Kong Hock Keong Kuan Im or Guan Yin is a name originating from translations of Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara. She is believed to perceive the sounds of her disciples and is often called upon by people desiring children. The early-20th century oldest Chinese temple of Penang offers a stunning display of architecture and decoration. Its peaceful premises, located in the midst of a busy area, attract devotees from far-off lands.Kuan Im temple commands a special place in the local heritage not only because of its patron deity, but also because one of its chief monks built another marvel, i.e., the grand Kek Lok Si temple near Penang Hill.
