When it rains, all roads lead to Kerala. But then, up north, we also have roads that lead to Rajasthan. And gorgeous roads indeed, for the state gets decked up in colours that can put any rainbow to shame. Monsoon is when clouds swarm in for surprise, sudden bursts on its rather barren, desert landscape. While the rural areas look nothing less than a beautiful oil painting, even the urban areas, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Mount Abu turn stunning. If you still have not fancied the idea of a monsoon vacation in Rajasthan, here are more reasons for you to go on a road trip to the royal state.

The lush green Aravallis
Well, mountains are a forever love, yet the thrill of watching the Aravalli hills come alive in lush green is a different experience altogether. While a road trip along the roads here is a great idea, you can hop to Mount Abu for a more comfortable and planned trip. It is a popular hill station in an otherwise sizzling state, but sees lesser tourists in monsoons, making it a trip like no other.
An odyssey of lakes
Rajasthan, as a state, is believed to be mostly desert, and thus, arid. Your perspective will take a huge shift if you visit the state in rains. Monsoon is the many stunning lakes here brim over in gaiety. Keep some evenings reserved for Lake Pichola, for it looks nothing less than a dream. Needless to say, it is time for some time out with your camera as well.
The majestic forts
There is no denying the fact that the many forts of Rajasthan are some of the best preserved and majestic in the country. Every year, monsoon washes them anew, and adds more to their charm. With the fact that a majority of these forts are perched on hills, unparalleled green views of the sprawling cities around them are guaranteed.

Hobnob with the locals
Rajasthan celebrates two of its prominent festivals, Raksha Bandhan and Teej, in monsoon, and makes for a perfect chance if you are keen for a more local experience. While there is little touristy crowd on the roads and markets around, you will run into more locals; this is when they are out shopping and celebrating in quite some aplomb. Plus, some great food too. Head out to more rural areas of the state rather than just the cities, and you will have a lifetime’s experience here.

No tourists around
While we are in absolute love with a monsoon vacation, not many people are, making it more of a treat for us. If you wish to explore Rajasthan at leisure and are great with getting drenched in some occasional showers, it is time for some good exploration. This is the time when you can have some alone time in the forts and ruins of Rajasthan, read a book by one of its lakes, go for a short hike in the Aravallis and so much more.
