Callao is Lima’s main port city. Palomino Islands are a short boat ride away from Callao and boast of a variety of experiences. Your hotel and base will be in Callao as well. This weekend getaway is perfect for people who love water, wildlife, and unique experiences. You will see the cutest penguins and a variety of birds on your tour of Palomino islets, and might even spot sea lions. But that’s not all. A trip to the Palomino Islands gives tourists the rare chance to get up close and personal with sea lions. Yes, you can go swimming with these majestic creatures. There are just a couple of rules one needs to follow—don’t get to close to them, touch them, or emit loud sounds. If you follow these simple rules, you will have a great time swimming with these gorgeous creatures. There are no sharks, whales, or any other predators in the area. This explains the presence of hundreds of sea lions that swim uninhibitedly in the waters and live on the rugged islets.
