Good news! Those planning to visit India will now have to pay just $25 (INR 1790 approx) to get a 30-day e-tourist visa during the peak travel season. Similarly, in the lean period, tourists can get the same for only $10. India has come up with a flexible e-tourist visa system based on tourist footfall.
Prahlad Patel, Minister of Tourism India said, “India to offer 30-day e-tourist visa with USD 10 fee during lean period April to June and USD 25 fee during peak tourism period from July to March.” He further said that move is taken to encourage more and more tourists to visit India.
While the proposal has got the heads up from the Home Ministry, approval from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on the e-visa fee is still awaited but is soon expected.
Last year in 2018, the indian government had stated its plans to boost the number of foreign tourist arrivals to 20 million by 2020. In 2017, 10 million foreign tourists footfall was recorded in India.
