Denpasar is Bali’s sprawling capital city has been an important city since the Dutch colonial times. It is centrally located, within easy reach of the airport and main resorts. Denpasar is not usually top of most tourists ‘to do’ lists but does have some great markets including Pasar Kumbasari, with bargain arts and crafts, Pasar Badung, an interesting produce and spice market. While here, you can also visit Bali Museum. Denpasar has many good value accommodation options including some nice historic heritage hotels, modern budget business style hotels and good local dining options. Staying in Denpasar offers visitors authentic and not-so-touristy Bali experience. It is a convenient base for exploring the rest of Bali but won’t suit most tourists who come to Bali wanting a relaxing beachside vacation. Read less
