Most photogenic lake destinations to visit in Uttarakhand for year-end adventure
What are your plans for this winter? Stay put or plan a fun trip with family and friends? If fun is what you are looking for this winter, Uttarakhand is home to some of India's most stunning lake destinations that you might want to check out. With serene water bodies surrounded by majestic mountains, these destinations are a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Here are some of the most photogenic lake destinations in Uttarakhand to visit this winter.
Nainital
Nainital is home to the Naini Lake, one of the most popular and revered lakes in India. Surrounded by lush hills, this pear-shaped lake is perfect for boating, evening strolls, and enjoying picturesque sunsets. As per Hindu mythology, the lake is said to mark the spot where the eyes of Goddess Sati fell. It is also considered one of the 51 "Shakti Peethas".
Bhimtal
Just 22 km from Nainital, Bhimtal is a tranquil escape with a pristine lake that reflects the surrounding greenery. The lake features a small island in its center, accessible by boat, making it a favourite spot for couples and peace seekers.
Sattal
Sattal is a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Sattal gets its name from seven lakes that dot the region. This group of seven interconnected freshwater lakes is surrounded by dense forests of oak and pine.
Naukuchiatal
Famous for its nine corners, Naukuchiatal is a lesser-explored gem. Known for its serenity and crystal-clear waters, this lake is ideal for kayaking, angling, and paragliding, attracting adventurers and solitude seekers.
Roopkund
High in the Himalayas lies Roopkund, this glacial lake is shrouded in mystery due to ancient human skeletons found at its bottom. This lake can be a challenging trek for some, especially in winters, as the region gets covered in snow. The lake freezes over too.
Tehri Lake
Formed by the Tehri Dam, this man-made reservoir is a hub for water sports like jet skiing, banana boat rides, and kayaking. The lake's turquoise waters set against the backdrop of the Himalayas make it an Instagram-worthy spot.
Deoria Tal
Situated near Ukhimath, Deoria Tal is famed for its mirror-like reflections of the Chaukhamba peaks. A short trek of approximately 2.5 hours leads to this lake, making it a favourite among nature photographers and trekkers.
